What better way for two fathers to spend a beautiful summer afternoon than
canoeing with two wonderful babies. Dave and
Alden biked over to Mike and Oscar's place to begin the adventure. Before leaving the living room, Alden decided to break his new eyeglasses by stomping on them. Recovering from that we loaded all our gear into the canoe. Cargo included 4 life jackets, 2 paddles, 1 foam sleeping pad, 1
blanket, 1 stick to create shade with blanket, 1 camera, and some snacks for Alden. Dave and Mike each grabbed an end of the canoe and hauled it to
B.B. Clarke Beach. After Alden became upset with his
life jacket, Dave had to carry Alden in one arm and the canoe with other. This was foreshadowing.
We are all happy here. Out on the water it was another story.
Well OK there were good moments. Mostly this was a learning experience rather than an adventure. We did not make it very far. Unfortunately there was much crying from both ends of the canoe. Both babies were happier being held. This of course made paddling difficult. We decided we needed two paddlers and one full time baby care giver. Timing is
important too. Oscar was very ready for a nap.
Back home in the living room, Alden gave Oscar some life advice.
Alden's 20+ pounds is remarkably heavier than Oscar's 14 pounds. I need to start lifting weights.
We are all happy here. Out on the water it was another story.
