Oscar's first game of chess

This week Oscar has been visiting his Grandma and Grandad Spaul in Ohio and also got to meet his Uncle Tom. During his first flight, Mama learns that airport security requires a soundly sleeping babe to be removed from the car seat so it can go through x-ray machine - the seat not the baby-and that though breast milk is allowed, it still creates a lot of questions. They were especially questioning of the frozen gel pack to keep the milk cold (well how else do you keep it cold?) I'm surprised they don't make one pump it in the airport in front of security. But we made it with out major event (other than a major meltdown in Cleavland).

Oscar is enjoying having lots of loving arms to hold him and attend to his every whim. He is smiling constantly now in response to people, which everyone finds very charming. And (sigh of relief) he has been sleeping four and five hour stretches at night fairly consistently.

Grandad, hoping that Oscar shows a similar aptitude for the fine game of chess that so many Spauls seem to have (mama excluded), has introduced the game early. Oscar laughed during the explanation of how pawns and knights can move, but then fell asleep during the actual game. (for those interested, Tom won the game)

And here is Oscar spending some chillin' time with Uncle Tom, who proved to have a knack for getting him to sleep. Now we look forward to the rest of the week as even more family arrives from out of town. What an exciting week!
